NO MORE BEEP!!
We have FIVE smoke alarms in our little house. They are very loud and very sensitive. If one goes off the rest are sure to follow and Matt runs around with the stool turning them off, while I turn on the oven fan and open a window. Jake gets a terrified look on his face and runs for Mommy or Daddy. Grace doesn't mind so much. Matt's new way to deal with the alarms is to gently rip them from the wall until we are sure the smoke has cleared and then put them back.
A few days ago they went off when Matt and his friend has some trouble getting the pizzas in the oven. and yesterday one went off while I was cooking (did I mention they are extremely sensitive). Matt was not home from work yet. I took Grace and a very scared Jake outside as another alarm went off. I handed Grace the phone and told her to call Daddy and tell him to rush home (he should have been on his way) because I do not know how to gently rip them from the wall. Jake held tight to his big sister.

Grace gladly took on the role of protective sister and stayed outside with Jake until Daddy got home a few minutes later. Jake made it clear he does not like the noise. For the next 30 minutes all Jake said was "no more beep, no more beep, no more beep." At first it was cute and funny, then it was kind of annoying, then we were seriously worried about him having nightmares from this experience.

What Grace Wants
The other night Grace watched a movie called Mr. Poppers Penguins. After the movie she came out of her room and said very excitedly:
"the thing I really really want to do is go to Antarctica and see the penguins, and see Santa."
We explained that Santa lives at the North Pole in the Artic and penguins live at the South Pole, Antartica.
"ok then I want to go the the Artic and travel all the way around the world to Antartica, but wait, then I'll have to walk upside-down. I know, I know, the thing I really want to do in the whole wide world is go to Disney Land. Actually, I want Disney Land to be in Antarctica so I can see the Penguins and go on rides!"

Jake First Haircut!
Jake had his first haircut today. I really love his blonde curls, but they had finally gotten too long and we made his first haircut a special family event. I made an appointment at a special kids salon where they have "cars" to sit in and toys to play with. Jake even wore his fancy clothes. I tried to prepare him for the experience by talking to him throughout the day about what would happen. He was uninterested in what I had so say, simply saying "no" when I asked "won't that be fun?" We got there a little early and the kids played on the playground outside and then the train table in the salon. When it was finally Jake's turn he was not happy and could not be bribed with toys or treats. Daddy forced him into the seat, while Mommy took pictures. It only took a few minutes for him to realize that it wasn't so bad and he played with the toys and had a snack. In the end he had a nice haircut, keeping the curls just not so long and he was having so much fun with the toys he didn't want to leave.
